Crap. Forgot that Health month now does the last (partial) week of the month on a ratio basis, and not on how many days. So, skipping 2 days of a 5 day a week rule during a 3 day week meant I lost a life point. Sigh. :( My own damn fault, and I’ve got life points to spare, I’m just pissed at myself. There goes my streak. everybody_polka is fruit-hungry.
I lost 1 life point because of the following things…
well, I really screwed up this month. I set up my rules at 2am after getting back from a vacation and failed to notice until a week into May that the rule wizard had me exercising every day of the week instead of 3x per week. Oops. Yeah, that didn’t happen… :)

Made it! It was a bit tight at the end there, but I sorted it well. Bring on June! dmleach had a couple thoughts.
Dear Health Month, We’ve had a pretty good run together, wouldn’t you say? A little winter romance, something to chase the chill away. I’d certainly like to think we’ve grown these past few months. Or, in my case, shrunk. See, the problem is that we start to get comfortable with one another. I see some nice success, you tempt me with delicious fruit. I introduce you to some of my friends, you introduce me to some of yours. But before long these triumphs have turned into… expectations. It feels like you don’t see the goodness in me that was there from the start. You just keep pushing and pushing, and the next thing I know it’s the evening of the fifth and my heart has already turned pale and filled with negativity. I’ve thought about just calling it quits with you, buster. There’s just one problem with that: I like the way you make me feel. I really think that if we just dial things back and try to recapture some of that early magic, maybe then we’ll both start feeling rewarded again. Just one last thing: you’ve got to quit emailing me at one in the morning every single day. It really makes you look needy. XOXO

I had my back go out last night—a really painful and unexpected experience. Even though I felt better this morning, I went thru the day fairly gingerly. Hence, I didn’t get my steps in but I did fairly well otherwise.

Blargh, ended the month not so great, exercise-wise. But looking forward to June, even though I upgraded to 30 minutes 4x per week (from 3x). :)

I like Health Month. It’s a little shocking to me just how motivated I can be by the promise of imaginary fruit. Success is great — huzzah, I am now a confirmed breakfast-eater — but failure turned out to be useful, too. I bit off a whole lot more than I could chew, and for three weeks I stared at that walking rule that I wasn’t going to make. It motivated me to get back into physical therapy. I gave it a good shot and found that it wasn’t within my limits, so now I don’t have to snarl at myself for not doing it — which I’d probably have done much more often if I hadn’t had to consciously choose, day after day, to ignore that rule. And I kind of love this fruit business. (Thanks for all the fruit, everybody.) I don’t know about you, but for me it turned out to function in this really primal way that surprised me — as if some part of my psyche from deep in my primate ancestry is saying, “My community is telling me that I do not have to be perfect. They are helping me! Holy crap, I don’t have to be perfect. Look, it’s social proof.” Next month I’m being ambitious in a different way — I have a bunch of rules that cluster around the general idea of getting my act together and having fun in a more-or-less useful way. More housework, more gardening, more playing the banjo and messing around with contact juggling.

Cleaned a big house=great execise. Down side—got hungry after and had m&m’s and nuts. Upside—rode happily in the rain and then prepared soup. Down side—soup is taking a long time! Upside-snacking on raw veggies… Celebrate! It’s the 31st! Love Health Month!

Feeling a little better today than Monday/Tuesday. Just got back from walking the dog, and the midafternoon heat/humidity is sucking the life out of me, though! I was thinking about starting C25K this month, but lord-love-a-duck, this heat makes me want to wait until October.
