She
lost 2 life points for missing the following: allow gluten 1 day a week, walk at least 15 miles a week.
Her public review of the day was…
I’m so glad a new month is starting. I feel like I need to hit my “life refresh” button. I did well on small rules, like daily flossing and taking vitamins every day. I also did well on things I do once a week, like a sprint workout and weight training. Sometimes I missed writing, I ate gluten more than once a week if I felt pressed for time and didn’t prepare food ahead of time (lesson learned the hard way, again), and there were days I could only walk a mile, not three or four. I’m making adjustments to October’s rules. And I added more once or twice a week rules. I think I’ll squeak by with a life point by tomorrow. If not, I guess I’ll be out at car wash station on Saturday morning, washing and waxing my car!

It’s early morning where I am. I’ve been meditating and feel filled with appreciation for humanity—and very thankful for all that I have in my life.
Imagine me wearing a saffron-coloured robe and some old dusty sandals, my head shaved like Brooke’s, and carrying a small brass bowl in my two cupped hands. My forehead is uncreased. The day is new and I sense the Universe has stories to tell.
I leave my hut silently and walk slowly along the road in contemplation, enjoying the pre-dawn stillness, the warm soft air, marvelling at the frangipani and banana flowers and the lushness of where I am privileged to live.
I come to your door and knock gently, bowing my head and holding out my bowl, humble. If you have fruit for me, I bless you. If you have no fruit for me, I bless you twice.
I am giving you two different tropical fruit of your choice as fruit!!!
Mangosteen and a mango, Django!
Thank you for the blessing and
I’m blowing you a kiss in return.
Wow!
That has to be
the most
eloquent,
poetic
plea for fruit
in the known universe!
Can’t resist putting fruit in your bowl with that kind of image!
Even though you’re topped off now, I couldn’t resist. Such a lovely plea! :-)

@Pellymelly…then you get two blessings! Thank you, I am fine now. @Mary Ann…well, I felt I should work for it and humbly appreciate it, speak my truth about it. And I am appreciative. So thanks! I even have a few pieces of my own fruit I can give to someone else now, or share these tasty points. I won’t need them all. Any takers??? |

Several days ago I set up my rules for October, and it’ll be the first time I’m promising myself a “big” reward for ending up with positive life points – a Kindle. I selected this knowing an announcement about the next generation Kindle(s) was expected within a few weeks. (Side note: I only get it if I can do it without begging for fruit. For the past few months, I’ve had the policy that I only get the reward if I do it without begging for fruit, since it’s pretty easy to end up with positive life points if you use fruit pleas. I count positive life points with fruit pleas as a “neutral” result – I don’t get the reward but don’t incur the penalty either.)
So, as you may be aware, Amazon had their big announcement today. With all the rumors of a Kindle tablet, I was pleased to see their new line also includes more traditional dedicated e-readers, because I’m more interested in the e-reader alone than the tablet – I don’t really feel the need for an intermediate device between my smartphone and my laptop, except for reading.
They’re available for pre-order now, but won’t ship till mid-November. And, on the pre-order, they note that they’ll fill the orders in the order their received. So, I figured, if I do earn the reward, I don’t want to be on a waiting list, so I went ahead and pre-ordered my Kindle. BUT, if I don’t make my goal in October, I have to cancel the order (and try again in November).
How’s that for an incentive? (It may be challenging, too, as I have a film fest running through the middle of October which will involved some planned life point losses, so I’ll have to be all the more diligent the rest of the month.)

Sounds like a good well thought out plan. I enjoy my Kindle a lot and love that it is only an e-reader. It has helped me gain back my attention span. |

I like your thoughts on getting life points via fruit: “I count positive life points with fruit pleas as a “neutral” result – I don’t get the reward but don’t incur the penalty either.” |

Several of our Book Lovers need points.
Points can be sent to them directly.
No pleas necessary.
Just go to their profile.
Under their picture you will see a picture of a heart and how many Life Points they have.
Under that it say, “Donate Life Points”.
Go to it!

If you’ve got lots of FRUIT to spare, another little thing you can do is It’s a fun way to pass on the wealth! |

I have two thoughts on your idea, Bud: Yes, that can certainly be done, especially if you (the donor) has a lot of lifepoints but not much fruit. However, 1) Rachael is right, in that it’s a less “economical” way to do it, since fruit is generally more in supply than are lifepoints – it’s relatively easy to gain/earn fruit, but it’s seldom that one gains a lifepoint. Usually lifepoints are LOST, not gained. 2) Donating lifepoints eliminates or side-steps the “social healing” aspect of the game. I believe there is a lot of value in that process, for both the donors and the recipient – to ask for, and to receive, help. |

… And so, if you sidestep the process of plea-making-and-fuit-receiving, and instead just “donate lifepoints”, – I believe that everybody involved misses out on a LOT. |

Yeah, I waver on this one…I think, on the one hand, I’ve got “10 points” to “spend” (or expend) for my lapses, indiscretions, changes, illness, emergencies—whatever—during the month. And I Should be able to get through the month with one point left. After all, I’m a grown up and I need to learn to manage my life (my mom’s voice in my teenaged head) On the other hand, I’m really low on points at the moment and respect the social healing aspect of Health Month and know myself well enough that when my instinct says “tough it out and don’t ask or you’ll be seen as a loser” (more old tapes) what I really, really really need to do is Accept that I made the choices I made, be humble and honest enough to ask for fruit donations to leave the month on a positive note, and point balance. So I’m going to do that and ask for fruit. However, knowing that I would have gone below Zero with today and tomorrow’s choices and travel, I am also going to make my $20 “failure pledge” donation to a charity as well. I just love this process. Every month a new adventure with wonderful travelling companions! (new tapes playing in head) |
