I’ll be ending this month on a very high note. I hit quite the milestone this morning. Since starting Health Month I have lost 40 pounds. I am at my lowest weight since getting married almost 8 years ago. I am so incredibly proud of myself! And very thankful for all the support I receive from this great team. :)

I had a great morning – did meditation, then went to read/write in a quiet bookstore cafe. Meandered through a small local flea market just enjoying the compasses and plates and old screwdrivers and such. Spent the afternoon doing chores, which was less fun but necessary. Rising anxiety as the afternoon seemed to evaporate. Went to the gym even though I really didn’t want to, was glad I did (funny how I am always glad I did).

April has felt like an arduous month. Looking forward to May.

Semi-productive day. I managed to write up my very first choreography (for a 2 minute song, heh) and so now I need to work on drilling the shit out of that so it might be ready for the June performance. Then I came home and worked on ripping out the seams I made hastily in this velvet fabric that I was going to use for ritual robes (until I found out that they had to be 100% cotton, argh) and that is now going to become my dance costume coverup. It’s slow going, but I managed to watch the last episode of the season 1 of The Tudors.
I hope my electric bill arrives soon. It used to be Comcast that was the slackers on sending the bills, but now it’s BGE. I like to pay everything all at once. (Especially since my credit card has a lot of charges on it at the moment, eek!)

malpais had a couple thoughts.

Heart.half.16 8 · 1,275 pts

Hey Happy Habiteers,

April has passed by kind of unconsciously, so for May I did a bit of thinking and planning about my habits.

1) Exercising, my Habit Course Habit

Have been doing this ever since, more or less consistently, giving myself a lot of space for the interpretation of “yes, I did it!”. Although I think that it is crucial to be nice and gentle to myself I still want to re-establish my trigger-habit connection, hitting the trampoline as soon as I get out of bed, having a nice cup of coffee as my reward afterwards.

2) Doing at least one MIT

Do you remember I was a bit under pressure at the beginning of the year because of my logbooks? Well I didn’t finish. As soon as I heard that the focus of this year’s audition was bonus flight programs, the pressure was gone. Since then my MIT has been any urgent topic that I had difficulties taking care of, or writing 750words, which is indeed a pleasure and I’d like my MIT to be more of a frog…. So in May I could go on with those logbooks, as end of year is coming closer ;-) there WILL be a final day for handing them in. I really hate to do this, but I may hate NOT doing it even more!

3) Giving up a bad habit

Ok so now it’s time to confess a really ugly habit – I am a nail biter (oh, yes, there IS something I hate more than logbooks!). I’ve been wanting to stop for ever, so when I came across the Habit Course I thought this could be a good way to get rid of it. Then Leo told us not to start with a bad habit which apparently was absolutely right – and then I lost focus. But now in May I feel I wanna try.

As I am preparing for my habit change I am paying close attention to the situations when I do it:
- while reading,
- when stressed out,
- when indecisive,
- when procrastinating.

I have to find a better occupation for my hands (just do something! is a way…) or sit on them while reading.

This is going to be tough – various triggers throughout the day, possibly overcoming some deep and crazy reasons why I’ve been having this bad habit for such a long time, no direct reward because I have to wait until the end of the day to see if I was successful – so, your encouragement is highly appreciated!

And I need to focus on the positive results:

I would no longer feel embarrassed for my hands any more.
I would leave the grubby child behind in favor of a healthy and tidy look.
I would be SO proud for overcoming this long-living flaw!

I am looking forward to sharing my joy with you for every day that I didn’t touch my hands from now on! :-)))

Good luck for your new and old habits
Julia

PERFECT, Julia! :)

do the 750words “badge thing” with your nail-biting…

What I mean by that is this:
Give yourself a pat on the back for starting.
After a streak of 3 days give yourself a very small, but fun reward.
After a 10 day streak give yourself a little bit nicer reward for a job well done.
After 30 days…make up a WALL OF AWESOMENESS sign for yourself. Really go crazy in designing it and make it FUN! Also reward yourself with something really really nice…a manicure, perhaps. Or anything—it doe not make much difference as long as YOU think it’s nice.

know that if you were able to do it for 30 days, you are able to do it for 30 months and then for 30 years.

You will be successful ONLY by taking your journey ONE DAY, sometimes 1 hour, at a time.

YOU CAN DO IT, JULIA. I BELIEVE IN YOU!

I’ve always told skeptical children that it’s not really important whether they believe in Santa or not…they just need to know that SANTA BELIEVES IN THEM! and I do.

:) malpais

What an awesome plan, Patrick.
This is exactly what I need to do.
Make it fun… and it will get done :-)
(ok, that was FlyLady speaking with my voice)

Thank you so much for believing in me – and if Santa believes in me, I don’t think anything can ever go wrong.

Now I am off to think about my badges…

4 Energy: I could read a book without getting winded
4 Calm: -1  Something was worrying me recently
5 Mood: -2  I will probably smile sometime today

HONEST MONTH/CURRENT CHECK IT:
I must prioritize my health and generally gain more structure in my life. I was very structured and busy last year, however I have lost that hugely this year. Although I do have some challenging things happening outside of myself, I must still ensure that I get myself in order. Otherwise I will not be much benefit to others!

So key learnings from Health Month:
1) Ensure Targets are obviously visible. Poster or wall, written on mirror etc.
2) Simplify, simplify and simplify! I often waste to much time trying to set the perfect goal and then I have already lost momentum. As much as they do need to be specific my challenge is to more so focus on regular attainable goals. E.g. next month I want to do at least 5 fitness sessions a week. (Swimming, Yoga, Run etc.)
3) Celebrate and analyse the value added. I am still not reflecting or celebrating my journeys enough. I must focus on realising the value these habits have in my life, and celebrate that!!! I.e. I MUST meditate daily. This is a non negotiable as I know how much I need this is I want to overcome my personal challenges. I MUST review my day, so ensure my brain has clarity before the next day.
I will do my final update of the last 2 weeks of health month now. Although it has not been the most successful month of maintaining these habits. Next month I must maintain these to increase my quality of well being!!!

So in summary:

For May:
1) 5 fitness session per week
2) Meditate at least 30 mins – daily
3) Write or record a daily review. Either as I go during the day or at bed. CELEBRATE DAILY SUCCESS!
4) Continue to track spending daily – Reflect on this weekly/set goals.
5) Lumosity training – daily
6) Read/practice public speaking/facilitation 30 mins 5X a week
7) Read/Study the power of now – daily.

Personal Outcomes I will to achieve:

More personal clarity and acceptance of my path this year, and future en-devours. Continue searching for the acceptance that life is a journey. (Read The power of now)
Strive to continually grow and gain opportunities to become a high quality facilitator and presenter. Have a bit of a loose action plan on how to achieve this!
Increase personal self confidence/efficacy to be backing myself further in my life challenges.
Feel more fit and healthy!

Had a bit of a rocky evening, but otherwise a fantastic day. I worked out in the morning, finally learning some routines on the balance ball, and in the afternoon I started writing a new novel!

My co-author has been working on her part nearly all month and I finally found the angle for starting my part. Things are working out quite differently than I’d imagined, but in a very good way. I drafted the first scene and made notes about some things I missed in the first draft, so later this week I’l go back to insert those few things and then move on to my next part. We’ve been planning this novel on and off for the last three years—I’m so glad to finally be writing it!
