Hi there,

I had sublet my room while away and this is a great incentive for getting further with my decluttering. I removed a lot of my stuff from my room and now scrutinise every item a lot before letting it back into my room. Already got rid of a lot of stuff that I thought, I really need. But then I lived without it for nearly a month ;-)!
And it remembered me of these great questions, that I will put on a little notecard to remind me during decluttering. I feel re-energised for my decluttering.

Thanks everyone for your great support, this is really appreciated.
I feel better on track now, and took some time to rethink about my triggers for my habits and that really helped and made a difference. So rather than working my habit off like on a check-list I re-established triggers, so it all becomes more automatic.
Anyway, I hope you all have a great day and please plea for fruits as well, so that I can support you as well!
Cheers,

The concert was quite fun and they played good songs and had lots of pyrotechnics. Makes me wonder what their insurance must be, because goddamn. (Oh fuck, I’m an adult!) I wish we had GA seats and not ones in the stands, but the GA seats were out of my price range. Getting out of Baltimore was a complete clusterfuck, as they had 95 narrowed down to 1-2 damn lanes.

I did manage to sleep only the allowed amount of time and I’ve certainly felt worse in the morning. Ugh. I feel greasy and disgusting, but I can’t shower until after work because I have to shower right before I go to the EEG place.

A strategic day. It’s nice to feel I’ve got some new tools to work with—and a better understanding of how I’m going to get where I want to be. And where that is!

Ticked the boxes. Laundry changes in prep for houseguests from Friday morning to Sunday night—D’s cousins from Melbourne on their way home. Made healthy banana muffins to impress them <!> but that might be the only home-cooked food they get. Cheaper to eat out anyway, strangely. And gloriously freeing.

We have a two-couples hot stone massage scheduled with them (albeit not in the same room) tomorrow. All four of us are excited, me especially. Want! Need! Anyway, one more “relax” needed for my rule.

Enjoying the exercises and continued revelations about Willpower from Ms McGonigal. On to Chapter 4. A good day. I even took a nap and rescheduled a call to do it rather than give it up. That’s major for me.

He lost 2 life points for missing the following: start working by 9:30am at least 5 days a week, stop using the computer after 11:30pm at least 4 days a week. His public review of the day was…

Didn’t get up on time; didn’t get started on time. Otherwise, the day went well.

I was talking to my wife today about how these sleep-related things are what’s killing me on Health Month. She pointed out that I was making too big a jump by forcing myself to do everything two hours earlier than I usually do. While it does sound ridiculous that a 35-year-old man has a really hard time getting up at 8:30, that doesn’t mean I can change that in a snap. So, next month, the sleep rules will be much milder and fewer.

:) dorey_oh

Sounds like a good approach. I’ve refigured my sleeping/waking rules a few times. Almost have it set to where I’m productive enough in the mornings without feeling like I’m dragging myself out of bed at a completely inappropriate time! Ugh – who would think that sleep could be so complicated?!

:) RosieMBanks

Maybe you have a naturally night-owly inner clock? I think that while most people can train themselves to get up early, it’s going to be harder for some of us. I think your wife is right and that you don’t want to make it tougher than you need to. Slow and steady probably will do the job better.

:) ldthomps

I did forget my pushups… but went for a swim instead! Also the “walking” involved more jogging than customary… small victories.

When I wake up tomorrow, my big thing will be tomorrow. It’s tomorrow’s tomorrow. And I’m freaking the fuck out.

I ran today, and I got another PR for the mile! I’m so proud! I was really trying hard for a PR for my 5K, but I missed it by 7 seconds. 7 measly seconds! We’ll see about that tomorrow, won’t we? :-D

Things are much, much, much better with Boy Jr. which I am immensely grateful. It’s unbelievable the magnitude of a really negative event (being shamed and made to feel bad for loving me, as though it were inherent betrayal) and how long it takes children to recover. Hell, how long it takes adults to recover—I can’t act like that didn’t fuck me up, too, living with someone who is basically terrified to look me in the eye for the thought of betraying and hurting someone else he loves. Not exactly the easiest thing in the world. But, I’m sure you realize it’s not like I didn’t know all of this going in. And I went in anyway, willingly and happily and I would never, ever change my life now!

:) MaryAnn

Wow, that’s pretty heavy stuff for a little boy. Poor little kid. And he’s too young to understand the big picture and why he’s feeling bad . . . unlike yourself.

As for tomorrow’s tomorrow and the big thing, I wonder if I’ll really be able to hold my breath for that long? I’m tryyyying. :-)

:) Quinnie

MMT, I’m moved by your mind and heart living wide open all at the same time. Good for you and a blessing for Boy Jr.

Have at it, girl. PR’s one mile at a time are absolutely awesome. Run like a girl!!!!

:) MaryAnn

MMT, if it’s not too long or too personal a story, how did the little kid get over that? Was it mainly the passage of time, and a contuing series of new, normal experiences with/around you? Or did something in particular happen? …some conversation or other event?

:) MiddleClassLady

Basically, what happened was the we told him the secret :-) After that, it was like the spell was broken; he was very relieved and incredibly different, literally from one minute of not knowing to the next minute, knowing. So that was cool. Back to normal, it seems. Thank. God.

Unfortunately, even though it’s great that no significant damage is being done currently on that front [to our knowledge], it’s not something a kid (especially a kid with developmental abnormalities) can deal with well, because the feelings are confusing:

“If I love person A, I upset person B. If I don’t love person A, person C seems sad. I do love person A, but I don’t want B mad.” Also, it must be confusing to repeatedly hear about person A’s negative attributes—but, mysteriously, never to see those alleged attributes. It would be like if your mother told you that a puppy you really wanted to play with and love was rabid and evil, and she said that over and over, and you think you should believe her because she’s your other right? But…you’ve never actually seen that puppy be rabid or evil, it looks like a nice puppy, and it is nice and makes you feel good. But…if you play with the puppy, your mom might not love you anymore, or will be absolutely, 100% emotionally unpredictable. So, like I said, even though none of that damage is currently going on, the constant stream of hatred and vitriol directed at me in front of Boy Jr. is still settling into his psyche. He’s still processing that, even though it’s [allegedly, hopefully] over. And will be for a long time.

THAT’S A FUCKING TRIP, RIGHT? Right. It’s a trip for a neurotypical adult.

:) MaryAnn

It is indeed a miracle sometimes how children can come through what they come though and grow past it all. How fortunate Boy Jr (that sounds like a rock star’s name!) is to have Person A and Person C on his side. We can only hope that Person B will ‘get it’ in the fullness of time. I suppose stranger things have happened, eh, even though it may not feel like it at the time.

I’ve now watched my friends’ children (and my own) go through all sorts of agonising things in the process of growing up, surviving their families of origin and all the things that happen to them…and that generation is now going on and having its own children, issues, troubles and painful processes.

All I can say is that each generation of children is a tribute to the resiliency and ability of the species to survive and move on. Not always easily or prettily but almost always successfully. It really does give me hope and I hope that it bodes well for Boy Jr.

:) SylvieF

Really intense stuff, MMT. Boy Jr. is lucky to have you. I think kids always know when something’s going on. It’s great that you could be open with him.

As for the tomorrow tomorrow, it too will pass (if it hasn’t already). Thinking good thoughts for you.
