Public review of the dayOut and about with guests but they slept in so we got some household stuff done in the a.m. Took them into town in the late afternoon and caught the end of the big political protest rallies--that was pretty interesting, seeing everyone in yellow shirts and carrying placards, etc-- but we missed the tear gas and water cannons by several hours (planned avoidance + police roadblocks). As these are Derek's relatives, I'm doing a good job of taking my own time and letting them rehash 31 years of family gossip while I read, walk dogs, etc. Low point: D wasn't paying attention in a carpark, talking and laughing with the Aussies, backed out and hit a large concrete pillar. I could see it happening but couldn't tell/yell fast enough and it took off the driver's side mirror and did serious door damage as I watched. And set off a new round of jumpiness, ptsd-ish reactions for me. Damn and double-damn. The good news was no one was hurt. The bad news is now I'm freaked out in the car again. Oh well, a chance to practice what I learned before. Still, don't like it one bit. |
