Productive day. Meeting, then long-awaited lunch with friend at other end of city, good conversation, gained some insight on couple things, got copy of study materials/videos and watched some tonight. All pretty good.

And found the perfect little thing to give her as an office-warming gift for her new office: a “pyrite sun”.
I may have to get one for myself.

Wow, I’ve never seen a “pyrite sun.” At first, I thought it was a sand dollar that had been covered with some sort of metallic covering. Beautiful!

Yes, they’re beautiful. And that this is a natural, crystalline formation. And the colour – sort of a soft, taupey gold. I don’t know if you can see in the web images, how it glistens in the light.

An okay day, nothing too out of the ordinary. A taste of early summer here – 70F, which is unusually warm. Still cheered by the crocuses in the backyard, esp the white ones. And the purple & white striped ones. They won’t last much longer. Rotis for supper, always a treat.

:) susan taylor

Rotis! Still on my list of things to try. Sounds like a nice day all around,

Still picking away at the to-do list. Of course, much more slowly than I’d like.

And just before bed, a large bowl of cut up, fresh, organic strawberries, with a tiny amount of brown sugar.
Looks like heaven. Smells like heaven. Tastes like heaven.

Pretty good day, another couple of good meetings, some other routine stuff.

Walking through the backyard on the way out, I noticed the most beautiful single white crocus – long stem, large white chalice-shaped flower.
Returning home, a ghostly crescent moon behind thin cloud.

:) MaryAnn

The crocus is similar to this Crocus malyi a few inches down on this page – but about a foot tall, and a bigger flower.

How lovely. Annie Lennox has a song called Fingernail Moon. Your description evokes the sense of that song.

You know, I’ve passed by that pure-white crocus a couple of times each day this week . . . and it’s just stunning.
All by itself, white against a brown-earth background, the most lovely goblet-shape. And I also noticed that its stem curves in a relaxed ‘S’. The most exquisite little thing, it is.

I always think of them as among the bravest of flowers. They peek up so very early, bringing us one of the first and most undeniable signs of winter’s end. Sometimes they’re so early they get buried in snow! Purple ones are my favorite because for SOME reason I get tired of white. (ha!)

MaryAnn, in the Green Bracket, played Tuesday April, 16th for 229 points, following 100% of her 15 rules. She didn't lose any life points and therefore got 1 piece of fruit for the hard work. Her public review of the day was…

Things went well. Two very good meetings, that included progress and appreciations. (That makes a big difference.) Tasted a new tea. Made some social plans. Ate up some tasty leftovers that included 1.5 great big portobello mushrooms with tamari sauce.

There were a few hours of sunshine, in between cloudinesses. Lingered in the backyard a bit, on the way in and out. The crocuses are gorgeous. All kinds of other things are peeking out.

:) SylvieF

Both a sense of progress and appreciations do matter, a lot. I’m happy your meetings had some of each!

And ah! to the crocuses, and the sunshine, and even the cloudinesses – I am reveling in them here, too. We have these trees called Callery pear trees on a lot of city blocks – they are among the first to flower in the spring, great masses of silky white flowers all over the place, it’s amazing and glorious.

:) MaryAnn

Ah, but that to-do list. The day gets gobbled up by the day’s needs, and the bigger, more complicated stuff languishes by the roadside.

I’m starting to realize that it’s really true — in order to be more productive and get the stuff done that I want to get done, I’ll have to give up something else that I currently spend time on. (Even if that something is my do-nothing/wanking/relaxing time.)
Sigh.

I can just see you in one of your colorful scarves, smiling at the progress and appreciation, enjoying the tea, making the plans, enjoying the crocuses. Just makes me smile.

MaryAnn, in the Green Bracket, played Monday April, 15th for 289 points, following 93% of her 15 rules. She lost 1 life point for missing the following: limit spending for anything non-essential every day. Her public review of the day was…

Rushed around doing various stuff, a lot of it unexpected but necessary, and therefore many things on the list for today didn’t get done. And besides, I got distracted while I was out running errands.

Succeeded in not spending money on clothes I don’t need, but did spend money on scarves/shawls (at $10 each) that I also don’t need. They were on sale, and they’re beautiful, and and and. Not the biggest sin, but still…. Mostly I don’t need them, and they’re more stuff in the house, and I oughtn’t to be spending money on such stuff. Yet, I’ll enjoy them.

Didn’t have time for either coffee or tea today.
Had some nice moments of enjoying being alive, just bustling around the neighbourhood on missions and errands. (It was an intention that I’d planted in my head, and it worked.)

Had a good few minutes in the backyard, doing a bit of cleaning up so the emerging plants aren’t smothered by last year’s dead stuff. I love seeing the new shoots come up. And there are lovely little clumps of crocuses. All kinds of things are just beginning to wake up again.

it’s so lovely that it’s spring, isn’t it?

Yes, it seems like magic. I mean, that after all that snow and cold, every year around this time, like clockwork, green growing things start pushing their way up out of the earth.

Sylvie – it was a particularly concise instruction that I came across, for mindfulness or meditation.

The instruction was simply to notice the feeling of existing/existence – and that that was all you had to do.
I’ve been trying that lately, when I remember.

:) MaryAnn

Yes, they’re beautiful. I love scarves. Have too many, though.
Then again, who made the rules? :-]

:) Bridget

I can admit to too many red scarves. But 2 were gifts from students.
I have 3 or 4 shades of brown paisley designs. Same with red/orange. But each is very different.
My husband gave me this Van Gogh iris scarf.

Besides wanting every scarf shown on that page I also want this one:

And probably 90% of the scarves sold on that site.

:) karalianne

Scarves are glorious! I have a large collection, myself. I’ve finally started wearing them to cover my hair when I go out. I have so many lovely ones, it was getting silly. I need to go through them and pull out the ones that won’t for for covering my hair, though.

:) MaryAnn

Do you think there’s an upper limit for how many scarves/shawls one ought to have?
I mean, for a reasonable person, say.

:) karalianne

I have no idea. Maybe someone else knows?

(I am anything but a reasonable person when it comes to scarf ownership.)

MaryAnn, in the Green Bracket, played Sunday April, 14th for 249 points, following 86% of her 15 rules. She lost 2 life points for missing the following: do yoga at least 1 day a week, exercise for 0 minutes at least 3 days a week. Her public review of the day was…

Got a fair amount done. Chores, tasks, laundry, some minor decluttering.
Plans for studying, paperwork, and the like got superseded by something more important for husband – a somewhat complicated and tricky project (a photo of him that would serve as a portrait) that took quite a while, but the outcome was better than I’d expected, so that was satisfying. And good to get it done.

I’ve been enjoying tasting and savouring various kinds of tea that are new to me, thanks to starfevre.

Still a little overwhelmed at all the things yet to be done, a number of them becoming more urgent.

Going to bed less late than the recent lates, which is good. Another busy week ahead, but not so busy as the recent busy, and that’s good too.

Started the day with a good laugh, watching an hour of Louis C.K. on YouTube.
Ended the day the same way, a different hour of Louis C.K.
I find him hilarious, although naughty.
Maybe because naughty.

(But that means an hour later going to bed. Sigh. Laughing is worth it though, isn’t it?)

Got some stuff done – reading, studying, admin, odds & ends; and made a decision (hurray).

Went to an evening concert put on by a community choir in which a friend of mine sings. It was great.
Started with Faure’s Requiem, and then miscellaneous short pieces loosely connected with Spring. Including Aaron Copland’s “I Bought Me a Cat” – fun and very well done.

The concert was in a beautiful old church downtown, that I know from other connections. Among the whole audience, the only other people we knew there sat down right behind us, without any of us realizing until later. Nice happenstance.

After a few days of chilly rain, I walked through the backyard to see if anything was happening already.
It always amazes me in early Spring – the green life pushing up through the dirt, like magic, when everything is still all cold and wet, and patches of snow still around.

A few crocuses – purple & white striped, yellow, white – gotta catch glimpses fast, because the squirrels like to chew them up.
The iris blades are about 4" tall, and Lady’s Mantle (alchemilla) already showing little 1-inch scalloped leaves.

The snowdrops seem to have disappeared (squirrels?), but in their place are blue scilla.

MaryAnn, in the Green Bracket, played Friday April, 12th for 211 points, following 87% of her 16 rules. She lost 1 life point for missing the following: exercise for 0 minutes at least 3 days a week. Her public review of the day was…

The end of a busy week, finally. Did a bunch of stuff. One rather difficult meeting, a mixture of social and work, that included heavy conversation with many snags that had to be unpacked and sorted out. Draining.

Another gathering that was quiet and restful, and included a conversation with a woman with metastatic cancer. Sad. She knows her days are numbered. I mean, more numbered than the general/assumed numbered. And those commitments meant I had to miss the funeral of a youngish (45) acquaintance who recently died of cancer. (But there will be another event honouring her life in a few weeks.)

So, a heavy day.
Ended up picking up a roti for supper (oops, roti two days in a row), and watching “Jewel of the Nile” (Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito) – a rollicking, comedy-adventure.

It was just right: exotic beautiful desert setting (shot in Morocco), wonderful sets and props and camels (etc), and still funny after 25 years. Maybe even more funny, because the humour back then could afford to be less ‘careful’.
