buster had a couple thoughts.

Heart.half.16 2 · 4,050 pts

A couple recent changes I’ve been making due to feedback…

1) I’m deprecating spirit animals. At least, until I can bring them back without being as confusing. The colored brackets which put you in groups of people who are doing about the same level of difficulty rules as you is enough for now. It also opens up room for more official “teams” that I want to let people join and compete with other teams.

2) I’ve changed the sidebar on this page to show the top 5 people in each colored bracket. Seems more interesting, I think.

3) You can now Tweet your daily reports directly from your report pages. It will automatically pre-fill with the link and the number of points you got.

4) You can “like” comments on the game wall, and peoples’ reports. I’m not sure if this is useful enough to keep around, so let me know what you think.

5) Your report page will also let you know if you’re on a streak of not losing any life points. You’ll see an extra congratulations on your page, or on others, when this happens. Let me know what you think about that too!

Send me any thoughts or ideas you have about any of these changes!

I like #5. Reminds me of the “streak” aspect of 750 Words (great motivator).

If I could stop destroying something every single day, I would like that last streak thing a little more. Ha!

I think deprecating the spirit animals is a good idea. I found them more confusing than helpful. Thanks!

As far as tweeting and liking, I probably won’t do that (with the link to my daily report) because I’m not interested in sharing my specific goals with everyone I know. Health Month participants I’m more OK with.

Oh, I’m actually kind of sad to see the spirit animals go. I liked how they represented the different styles of motivation/approach to change.

buster did a weigh-in.

Heart.half.16 2 · 4,050 pts

Weight: 175.8 lbs. Has gained 1.8 lbs.
Energy: I have enough energy to do everything I want (5/10)

I suspect that my health month rules aren’t strict enough to actually have an impact on my weight this month. We’ll see though.

Some emails weren’t going out (I went over my free limit for the email provider I’m using) but that should be fixed now. Apologies to anyone that got multiple daily reminders while I clumsily tested that it was working again.

Does anyone have any questions about how this all works, what things mean, etc? If so, ask away!

buster has a tip.

Sometimes I have trouble remembering the specifics of my rule during the day. I’ve bookmarked my rule page on my phone for quick reference, but I think I’m going to also write my rules on a small business card and keep it in my wallet. I thought about offering a way to print out your rules, but almost think writing them out yourself in the format of your liking will have a stronger impact. What do you guys think? How do you remember your rules?

So far sticking with small changes that I can remember tends to be the most successful method of lifestyle modification I’ve used. So, I only do a few rules I can remember easily. Only when those are part of my lifestyle do I reach further for new things. If I did want a reference, I think writing them out would be more useful than printing them.

I’m thinking of picking up a Scoutbook or similar — just a tiny notebook. That way I can keep track of my rules, but also do a lot of the tracking things there during the day when appropriate (I don’t have a smartphone), like thinking of tiny improvements, or being grateful. I was wishing I had one yesterday, since “start today’s turn” isn’t an option on the first (I’m going back on forth on whether I think that is awesome/less awesome).

Am totally more inclined towards writing vs. printing, though.

Too late now, but actually you could start today’s turn yesterday – you just had to go to “Your Current Game” rather than the link at the top. :)

Son of a gun. I kept looking for something familiar, instead of my “click everything” approach (which is what I tend to do when something is entirely new). It just kept telling me to hang out, follow my rules, and come back. Which is a nice way to start a new month. But.
