karalianne, in the Orange Bracket, played Wednesday December, 7th for 137 points, following 90% of her 10 rules. She lost 1 life point for missing the following: take a bite out of my current frog! at least 5 times a week. Her public review of the day was…

Wednesday was a pretty good day. Finished baby socks and started first bonnet. Played with belt sander a little more. Got workish things done. Maybe today I can also do the dishes and get some writing done.

:) UKCynthiaR

“Played with belt sander…” hmmmmmmm,. I’ve never thought of belt sanders as ‘playful’ but then I didn’t get mine from reputable breeders so that could explain that.

Do tell more! And did you write??

:) karalianne

I’m trying to sand down a door. It used to be the door from the bathroom in our church when I was in high school, but they got replaced and so I painted it and we put legs on one end and my filing cabinet under the other end and I used it as a desk.

I want to re-paint it and use it as a desk again. The doorknob hole is perfect for computer power cables to go down, and of course it’s huge. But it needs sanding before I can paint it. So… belt sander! :)

No, I didn’t get any writing done at all. Hoping Thursday (today) goes better that way.

:) Rowan

Oh boy, playing with power tools! Something I miss from my theatre days. Anyway sounds like a great project, good luck on it! A+ for creativity on the desk-door.

Frog-a-thon

I need to do this again today, to stay focused. Who’s with me?

1. Finished my to-do list and did a bunch of internet stuff, mostly LiveJournal reading and commenting.

2) Figure out how to best delegate a portion of this frog in a way that doesn’t make it more work

:) karalianne

Good luck on the delegating, Rachael – not fun!

1. Phone call from mother of young woman I do community access with (cancelling this week), strength training, physio, leg stretches.

2. More sanding with the belt sander, dishes/sink/counters/sweep kitchen floor.

A good Monday. Nearly finished second soaker for cousin’s twins. Just one pair of socks and two bonnets to go! Picked up birthday cards and just have to sign and address them now. Also picked up yarn for making me and my husband sweaters next month.

I wish I could knit properly, I once took up knitting whilst I was giving up smoking and it took me 3 and a half years to knit that scarf! (I kept starting smoking again in between). Now I am smoke-free…but knit-free too. I admire people like you who are so creative in what they make!

ps what is a soaker?

:) UKCynthiaR

Oh, good, someone asked…soaker?? Not a knitter, always wished I could, though. Impressive!

:) karalianne

1. Knitting is not hard. It is two sticks and a piece of string. There are lots of videos that can teach you how for free! YouTube or – my favourite – http://knittinghelp.com are great.

2. Soakers are wool and you put them over cloth diapers. People get really creative with them. The ones I’ve made have skirts on them (they are having identical twin girls). They’re basically diaper covers. I’m still trying to decide about lanolizing them; I might just send them as-is with a note saying that I haven’t lanolized them and then she can do that if she wants to (it makes them more waterproof). http://diaperpages.com/soaker.php

Nah, you don’t have to worry, Janna.

I’ll be held hostage by the friggin Restive Season, the Season of Frenzy, for the next 3 weeks. Won’t be able to think about anything I’m interested in learning about, except how to escape this stupid idiocy without alienating all my relatives and out-laws.

But come December 27th – watch out! :-)

No. Wait. I’ll be sitting motionless in a chair for a few days first, except for lifting my mug of tea or hot chocolate, picking up cookies and/or Belgian chocolates, turning the pages of a book, and putting in one of several DVDs of burning fireplaces.

Let’s say, come December 30th – watch out! ;-)

Fell on the ice as we were walking from the truck to the church and landed hard on my elbow. Not broken, but really sore for the rest of the day.

Learned that a lovely woman from church who has been battling cancer for two years passed on Friday.

Had a fairly nice afternoon at the NaNo TGIO party though my arm hurt and my brain was a bit foggy.

Bonus of getting groceries at Costco with hubby there was that he could lift everything.

Spent the evening watching S1 of Castle and knitting a pair of tube socks for my cousin’s twins who will be born later this month.

Had a nice lazy day. Remembered to make certificates for tomorrow’s end of NaNo party (TGIO) and sent reminder of location message.

Also snuggled with Batman a bit and let him run around the living room for a little while. His fur is getting really soft; it was really wiry when I brought him home in August.

We watched one of my all-time favourite movies this afternoon, The Philadelphia Story. Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, and James Stewart. It really doesn’t get any better.

Souffle! Yes, Janna, please. An excellent name for a small animal, too, in my family. Fruitcake, Pudding, Tarts etc came before. Souffle would be good.

Nice report, nice result!

Oh, Janna, fantastic finish! I’m really proud of you and happy for you, too. I also didn’t come anywhere close to even my ‘half goal’ but I’m still glad I did ‘something’ and really enjoyed starting something different.

At 48K, do you feel it’s nearly done, done, or needs a lot more words? I misjudged mine last year. I thought I was 2/3 of the way there—and I totally wasn’t, more like 1/3.

Have you run into PlotWriMo? No writing involved, lol, it’s exercises to clean up the plot over the course of December. I’m going to do it to get back into my 2010 big project, which has had some plot issues I’ve been reluctant to dive into for a year now!

If interested, http://plotwhisperer.blogspot.com/

:) karalianne

That’s really cool, Cynthia, I think I will use that for a few of my longer stories as I prepare for NaNoEdMo (http://nanoedmo.net) in March. :)

The story is about half-done. I wrote all of the most important plot points and skipped over a lot of the other stuff. Writing a fantasy was a different adventure – I’ve been writing YA novels for the last few years (since 2006, with only 2007 being different) and those are finished at 50K (of course, they need a lot of editing and rewriting afterward).

I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t win this year, but I figure next year I’ll be better prepared and I’ll finish earlier. :) (I say that every year. And yes, I have won three times. Next year will be win number four!)
