everything’s going pretty well right now! I have work to do, but it’s not more than I can handle. My rules are tough this month, but they’re completely achievable.

I keep gaining and losing the same pound! It’s cool. I’m not gaining weight and weight loss is not the focus of this month. BUT STILL IT’S VERY IRRITATING. It’s hard to track my weight without trying to lose some. But it’s still good to stay aware of changes (or lack thereof) with my body. I’m doing well with my rules, but I know I could focus a little better. I’ve had/got some destabilizing things happening this month – I had a cold, then I gave it to my boyfriend. Got a potential project out of the blue that I’m vying (if it works out, there will be some major life changes), and my best friend’s wedding is in a week – on my birthday. Holy goodness, when I type that out, it’s a miracle I have any life points left at all!

Definitely not losing weight this month, but that wasn’t a real goal, just a “would be nice if it happened.” My goal was — stick to my rules. And really, I have been doing it. I am sick this week so I’m a little behind the eight ball, but I’m confident I’ll get back on track. YAY HEALTH MONTH.

I lost 2 life points because of the following things…
  • Did the custom thing
  • Did the custom thing

Ok. Here are my best excuses:

1 – I said I’d do this “custom” thing – which basically means doing at least one thing, no matter how small, to move my personal creative efforts forward 3x a week. BUT, I signed up for that rule twice by accident, and neglected to notice it until it was too late! And though I did ONE thing (not three, sad face) it was a BIG thing, so yay! But in terms of honest accounting – I have got a life point deficit like whoa. I lost four points on that alone!

Also I didn’t cook dinner last night. And I was already down a few points from last week.

SOMEONE SAVE ME.

I think you should accurately count your successes and shortfals for one copy of the identical rules, and put yourself down as always having fulfilled the duplicate copy that you didn’t mean to have there in the first place. It’s not FAIR to lose points twice for the same “sin”!

That’s how I’d do it. Use one to accurately track whether you do or don’t do it; for the other, mark it “yes” as many times per week as is needed to avoid losing life points.

I’m all about defusing the “see, you DESERVE it for not paying attention!” critical voice that starts yelling at me when I do things like that.

I am feeling much better. I have dramatically reduced my self-imposed creative obligations for the time being and have been focusing really just on work, exercise, keeping my home neat and cooking a lot at home. I’m still struggling a bit with my rules, anyway! One way or another, I have to learn to be happy with what I’m able to do and stop always feeling like I must. be. doing. more. Says who? Only me. It turns out I am kind of a slave driving jerk. Work, exercise, a clean house and regularly cooking good meals for myself is very easily a full plate. If I commit to that I leave room to do more of the things I’d like. I got approached by someone I’m stoked to have been approached by about potentially working on a very cool project. Maybe it will pan out! I was really needing a little something exciting to look forward to.

Sunday was nice. Went to Dim-Sum with my boyfriend, then he went to his place for a while, while I cleaned my stove and baked some banana bread (it came out awesome). He came back and we ordered some take out and watched some movies. Just a nice, relaxing day.

Trying to keep my attitude in check. I have a lot to be grateful for. My ex of many years got back in touch with me yesterday – it really put my head on straight. I believe one must choose to be happy, but it’s not a choice you make one day and then move ahead in bliss. You choose it every day.

This year has been hard. I need to acknowledge that! I am actually enjoying the rain and have been doing a pretty capable job of focusing on my goals and sticking to them. I’m surrounded by all kinds of crazy instability these days, though, which makes it hard to keep my eyes on the prize!

Taking a moment to think through what’s best for me to do the moment I come home and when I wake up in the morning were really helpful!
