I know it shouldn’t matter, but it bugs me that my Health Month week starts on Wednesday. Like, it has no practical effect, but it’s just weird to see a clean slate today.

Of all of the stuff I’ve been doing these past few months, I think the meditation has been the best for me (and the hardest to do). Getting my brain just to sit and relax for 10 minutes is surprisingly hard.

God, yes, it is.
Do you have any tips for practicing? I WANT to practice, but somehow getting out the instrument and actually doing it seems… too difficult.

I wish I did – I have a semi-long gig starting up next week, and I’ve barely even looked at my instrument. Just putting it together and sitting looks like an insurmountable task from where I’m at. I don’t even have anything to practice at the moment – it would literally be picking up the instrument and just warming up, going over some patterns to get my fingers back in motion and that kind of stuff.

I blame myself for not getting proper practice habits all those years ago – gotta be more proactive about fixing it now.

Getting myself going. This is going to be a crazy month, and the first half is definitely going to be nothing like the back half.

Not off to the most thundering start, but seeing as I didn’t actually choose my rules until close to midnight, I’m going to consider that to be ok. Plus, you know, this damn cold/whatever it is that won’t let go.

snwidget had a couple thoughts.

Heart.half.16 3 · 4,434 pts

This health month has been pretty enlightening. For the second month in a row, I clearly bit off more than I could chew – a lot of half-fulfilled efforts. Next month, I may focus on three key, easy areas, and build up some basic habits that I just can’t seem to get.

I am also scaling back for June. My fairly intense rules have been really useful in getting me to think differently about my time, and I’m going to apply that thinking to fewer areas this time around (for me that’s yoga, vitamins, vegetables, flossing, and a bi-weekly solitary activity. Oh man, that’s still 5…)

Down two life points – the end of the week is always pretty ass-kicky.

A bad day, but I did do my first day of talk therapy/counseling, so I’m going to give myself credit for that.
