Clearly, if I’m up this late, I didn’t get to sleep before midnight. Oh well. Tomorrow’s going to be a rough day, I can already feel it in my bones.

Actually got out and ran yesterday – felt like hell, but I did it. I keep waiting to turn the corner and “enjoy” going out jogging.

Dude, I’ve run like 1000 miles in the past 16 months… and I still don’t necessarily “enjoy” going out jogging. I enjoy the benefits it gets me, and sometimes I enjoy the run once I get out there. But if there’s a magical point at which it becomes 100% fun and enjoyable, I haven’t reached it.

(That said, I’ve noticed that the runs that I seem to enjoy the most are the slower runs. If all your runs suck, maybe try dialling back the speed a notch?)

I’m not running these days (I may get back into it toward the end of the summer if all goes well with my return to fitness), but when I did, there were a couple of things that kept me motivated, even though I always kinds of didn’t enjoy the actual running part so much (in the sense of “whee, this is fun”):

  • joining a low-key running club, and going on team runs once or twice a week, plus all the camaraderie of training for races and so on
  • running on trails whenever possible

I don’t particularly enjoy running all that much, but I get a lot of enjoyment from the sense of acomplishment I get from doing it. Do you listen to music while you run? I find that doing so allows me to ‘space out’ a bit, enjoy the music and let my legs worry about the running.

I’m going to try slowing down a bit – I’ve been having shin splint issues, so I think that’ll help that as well. The bit where I run, unfortunately, is concrete, so I’m afraid that’s causing some of the issues as well.

Music doesn’t so much work for me – I get bored. I generally run with comedy podcasts – keeps me interested, at least.

If you have the opportunity, run on bitumen rather than concrete – concrete is six times harder than bitumen.

Weird Monday – schedule was a bit bizarre. Otherwise, got some of my goals taken care of.

Not quite the start I wanted to my month, but I’m happy my wife joined Team Mefi for this round. It’ll be good to have an accountability buddy.

I definitely overshot the first month. I fudged a little bit, but I’m going to try to be more honest about it to myself next month. Also, fewer goals, and small, incremental change. I have had a great month, though, and even though I didn’t always meet my goals, I definitely did make some changes. Onward, upward, and into May!

A pretty average day, minus a work out in the morning that thrashed me for a few hours.

Yesterday was fun, but not so much productive. Still, I’ll count it as a net win.

My opinion: Our rules are here to serve us. It’s ok to put them aside when appropriate.

Enjoy your relaxing!

Not a bad day… but wait, one of my things was to go to sleep before midnight. But It’s already 1am. Nooo! Nah, it’s ok, I already passed that rule this week.

I completely forgot to update for 3 days! Trying to remember what I’ve accomplished since Monday was tricky…
